for Startup CEOs and Product Leaders
NOTE: This class meets for 6 weeks with asynchronous assignments.
Do you work with people?
Harness the power of storytelling to manage up, down and across your organization.
Use storytelling to get execs on board with your vision and customers to buy. In every high-stakes interaction, use our methodology to get your point across with crystal clarity.
In this class, we have distilled the art of storytelling into a science. Our methodology has been field tested to create memorable stories that influence.
At the end of this class, you will have the superpower to articulate a crystal clear product vision. We will focus on your ability to influence up, whether that's with your executives, your board or your investors. You will learn how to prepare for and deliver stories that influence. At the end of the class, you will have a toolbox of ready-to-go stories for articulating product vision and other common leadership scenarios.
Alumni of the class will be invited to our exclusive Story Lab, a practice space where you are matched up with a partner to continue practicing your storytelling skills on a regular basis.
Connie Kwan is a seasoned story-crafter and Product leader who has crafted and delivered product visions in her roles as Chief Product Officer and as CEO. In her 15 years spanning enterprise and consumer, SaaS, health, energy and semiconductor, she has told stories on stage at Google Tech Talk, Health 2.0, and Atlassian's annual conference. Additionally she has been on panels for Women in Product and Product Pub and was interviewed for a podcast for Practical Product. She understands how to engage different audiences through powerful narrative. She collaborated with actor and theatre director Max Koknar to create the Storyteller Method that turns the art of storytelling into a science. This is the method we will be learning in this class.
Who is this class for?
Startup CEOs, Product Managers and people leaders. This class builds influence skills that are applicable for managing up, down and across the organization. If your success hinges on effectively working with people, then this class is for you.
Two reasons. 1) You will have high-stakes interaction coming up such as fundraising, building a new team or product, moving into a new role or moving towards a promotion. Or 2) You are ready to accelerate your career by building your influence skills, the most important one for people-based work.
What is the Format?
This is a 6 week class. To get the most out of the class, expect to spend 2-3h per week to meet, work on homework and collaborate with fellow students. We will meet weekly on Thursday morning at 10am PST via Google Meet. The session will be recorded for those who cannot attend in person. Please note that the class in the second week will be recorded only (no real time meeting). Following the class, participants are assigned homework to build their toolbox of ready-to-go stories. You will be part of a Slack channel where you and I will interact and you will be paired up with others in the class to refine your story craft and delivery. Here is what we'll cover each week.

Week 2: Story Wheel - Preparing to influence up.
Week 3: Craft stories like Hollywood
Week 4: Storyteller Type Deep Dive
Week 5: Telling your story through words and images
Week 6: Telling your story through voice and body language

Why should I take this class?

Get a breakdown of the ‘how’ so that you can be equipped with the skills to bring execs on board. Never be at a loss again. Know the 6 different ways you can use to convey your message and more.
Can I get a refund?
All sales are final, but you may transfer your seat to another attendee before the class starts. Or you can choose to get access to a recorded version of this class.
